Updating your home’s exteriors can be a good opportunity to revamp your home’s visual design. This means you can try out a different pattern this time around when you’re replacing your home’s siding. As experts in siding and gutter installation, we’re sharing a guide on the popular siding patterns you need to know. Check them out below.

Horizontal Patterns

These traditional yet common patterns are seen in a lot of modern homes. Their tried and tested styles never fail to impress anyone, while also providing effective protection against rainy weather. A horizontal pattern for your siding is a good option if you want to keep it simple.

1. Traditional Lap Pattern

This common siding pattern is also the least expensive available on the market. It’s simple and effective, and it’s also easy to install. The pattern features siding boards partially layered on top of one another. This creates a barrier where the water effectively rolls down the surface.

2. Beaded Pattern

This common vinyl siding pattern is a more updated version of the lap pattern. This also has more texture and a “bead” at the bottom of each horizontal board, which provides that textured surface.

3. Dutch Lap

This pattern is also similar to the traditional lap, but featuring instead a groove cut out of the top of each board. The design is also just as effective, with its grooves providing more textual contrast that seemingly casts a shadow on the grooved panel below it.

Vertical Patterns

Apart from horizontal patterns, there are also vertical siding patterns available. Being a leading contractor for siding installation and roof maintenance means we offer options for vertical siding. These are some of the popular patterns.

1. Board and Batten Pattern

This is a more traditional pattern that has its origins from wood siding. Vertical boards are placed with battens that cover its cracks so it creates a surface that’s pretty effective on preventing water from leaking in. The raised batten design also casts a shadow over the boards, creating a nice visual texture throughout the exterior surface.

2. Panel Siding Pattern

This is like the vertical equivalent to the traditional lap pattern. The panels in this pattern are still placed slightly on top one another with a flushed surface.

Shake Patterns

These are popular patterns used as accents for the exterior design of some homes. This pattern first appeared as wood shakes but other, more readily available siding materials are used to mimic the same wood texture.

1. Round Pattern

This features more rounded shakes with the lower edges cut in a semicircle. You may want to try this if you’re aiming for that relaxing and cozy feel for your home.

2. Square Pattern

This pattern consists of small shakes that are cut into squares and layered row by row. This pattern may look traditional, but it can add a defined look when paired with vertical or horizontal patterns.

3. Mitered Corner

This interesting pattern features square shakes that have essentially mitered off the corners. This creates a more defined textured surface that’s perfect as accent for your home’s exteriors.
