Today, many roofers utilize drones in the beginning stages of a job. There is existing technology for inspection and measuring purposes... but INSTALLATION?! 


Some things should be left to the human professionals.


The University of Michigan Department of Aerospace Engineering is attempting to retrofit drones for autonomous roofing. 


Although they are only in the initial stages of design and testing, what could this mean for the roofing industry in the future? Will quality be overlooked for convenience?


The current prototype uses a DJI S1000 Octocopter outfitted with an off-the-shelf nail gun that could be adjusted to match the angle of roof slopes. 


So far, the device has been able to nail within 3 centimeters of the target. However, an innovation like this makes you wonder about quality control and warranty claims. Will product manufacturers stand by their warranty offers if a machine is responsible for the installation?


Would homeowners be comfortable trusting a drone with their major home improvement project? With so many questions we are on the edge of our seat.
